A rough week on the road…
I spent quite a bit of time on the road last week, driving from town to town. It was quite a challenge finding places three or more times a day to eat healthy food. I did discover, however, that the nice truck stops, like Love’s , Travel Centers of America and Flying J do offer a pretty wide selection of fruits, vegetables and other healthy snacks (along with a wide array of complete crap). They’re ubiquitous along interstates, and usually have pretty clean restrooms to boot. Check them out if you have a chance.
Also, Buffalo Wild Wings is another of the growing list of chain restaurants that now provides nutritional information about its selections, although for now, they only give it out by request via e-mail. Thanks to them, at any rate, for providing this information.

The ramp
The ramp at Owen Field. East side upper deck. I climbed it. First time in a long time. More later.

My wife made an interesting comment to me today:
“S2bs (not really, but play along), ever since we started Weight Watchers, we haven’t been using Tums hardly at all.”
And, she’s right. I can’t remember the last time I had heartburn, especially not at night. Before we changed our ways, so to speak, I would take a dose of Tums at least once a week. I wonder if the changes in the types of foods we are now eating is more responsible, or the fact that we simply aren’t eating as much. Either way, I think it’s a better way to live.

A shot from this evening. I swear I was in a good mood, despite the scowl on my face.
They’re also showing a small little game this weekend, that we’re thinking about going to see on the really big screen.

Sorry it’s ben a couple of days. I’ve been here in Minnesota, checking out The Twins and an Everlast concert (killer new album, BTW). Two tough environments, and I’ve been able to stay on program, even mixing in a light beer at the concert.
. We’ll see how good I’ve been when I get back in town Thursday.

I created an iMix on iTunes of songs i work out to. Go to iTunes and search for “s2bs Sooner” under iMixes (I’d love to post a more direct link, but WP isn’t keen on links to iTunes, for some reason). A word of warning: Some songs, and even song titles, are NSFW and NSFKids. Hope you find something you like!

Weight Watchers, like a video game? I’d never looked at it like that, since my gaming has been limited almost exclusively to NCAA Football, Madden, and NHL Hockey. However, this article makes a comparison that actually makes some sense.

I love this stuff. It doesn’t taste exactly like real peanut butter, but it’s very close. Plus, a serving is only 100 cals and 2.5 grams of fat, vs. 188 cals and 16 freakin’ grams of fat in the real deal. I haven’t tried the chocolate yet, but I’ve got some on order for another NFTR. Super Target carries the peanut butter (at least the one around here does. YMMV, but Target is usually good about getting something in if a customer requests it), or you can order it.

It’s turned cool here in Oklahoma (70s, which is pretty unusual for this early in September), and, for some reason, cool weather makes me crave ice cream. Weird, I know.
So, I decided to get a little bit. The operative phrase being, in accordance with the changes I’m trying to make, a little bit. I figured I could fit a small serving of something into my food plan.
I found out, it makes a big difference which small amount of something you get. A small chocolate shake at Sonic (sorry for the indirect link, but Sonic’s website is down right now. These numbers seem to jibe with what I saw earlier) runs 540 calories and 15 grams of fat. That’s about a quarter of the total calories I need in a day. Yikes! I was certain that I could do better, and I could. A small Frosty at Wendy’s, though, is just 320 calories and 8 grams of fat. A junior Frosty runs just half of that. Even better, a small cone at Mickey Ds is just 150 calories and 3.5 grams of fat. Shopping around for calories isn’t much different that shopping around for a better deal.
BTW, a good resource I found for shopping around, calorie-wise, is Eat This, Not That! from Men’s Health. It offers a side-by-side comparison of similar items at different restaurants and fast-food joints. It can be pretty shocking how a small change in prep methods can make a big change in calorie count, without a similar flavor benefit.
No, I’m not getting jack squat from Men’s Health. Not that I wouldn’t mind.
