A real-life use for my misspent youth
As I’ve mentioned (BTW, if you can’t handle mentions of college football from August-December, it may be time to subscribe to another blog:)), I’ll be at the OU game Saturday. Now, while I was an undergrad, my friends and I would sneak adult beverages into the games (I was in school during the ’90s. We needed to drink, trust me). In fact, I owned a pair of $10 cowboy boots, referred to in polite society as manure-kickers, that would hold two flasks and the better part of a six-pack.
Now, all of this training will come back into use Saturday, as I try to bring some healthier fare to the game with me. Trust me, I’d pay the outrageous concession prices if they sold apples and spinach salads. But, they don’t. It’ll be a little warm for the kickers, and security is a bit tighter at the stadium than it was pre-9/11. I’m just hoping the old adage about old age and treachery defeating youth and skill holds true.
I think I’ll be OK. I’m not taking in a whole lot. Besides, for a night-time season opener, I think security will be more pre-occupied with drunken freshmen (and 50-year olds) than they will be with my apple slices and 100-calorie packs.
