Party time…

without comments

…tomorrow. My wife and I are hosting a little shindig for a friend that’s coming to town, with his new son in tow. It will be a good dry run of how to survive a party atmosphere, without too much worry about having good stuff to eat (My wife is making sue that we have plenty of healthy choices. She’s got a dynamite mashed potato concoction that’s really lo-cal). I’m going to focus on the mingling thing, as well. :)

Then another game day Saturday, which will require an earlier start than last week’s “game” did. So, I’ll need to be sure to get a healthy meal in before I head out, to reduce hunger, which leads to temptation (sound like Yoda, do I).

p.s. Has anyone copyrighted 0-16 the way the Pats copyrighted 19-0 last season? I’m hoping to reverse the Redskins’ woes, or at least make a buck off of them. Yeesh.

The plan…

without comments

… barring rain, is to walk to the game on Saturday. It’s about three miles from where we’ll begin the pregame festivities, and I’m hoping to make the trek in 45 minutes. My wife and I have made that sort of hike a couple of times fairly recently, but never without being fairly wiped after doing so. Fortunately, we’ll have a nice, hard aluminum bench to rest for about four hours on, squeezed in amongst the faithful. :)

I’m actually pretty excited about the walk for a few reasons. First, my wife suffered through some pretty serious back issues for the last two years, which made that sort of trek all but impossible. In fact, we changed seats this season so that the number of steps we have to travel is minimal, as the up-and-down still isn’t as good as it will be. While the seats we’ll have won’t be as good from the view of a football purist like myself, we will have an awesome view of this glorious monstrosity.

Additionally, I’m not really sure I could have hauled my bulk down three miles of even the flattest of streets (You know the line from Oklahoma about the “Where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plains?” Yeah, they meant Norman.). It would have just about wiped me for the rest of that day, and most of the next, as well. So, I’m hoping that, come Saturday, I’ll be able to enjoy the walk AND the game.

Finally, I won’t miss hunting for parking and paying $10 for a spot in a mud hole I’ll need a shoehorn to get my car out of.

Clothes shopping

without comments

My new lifestyle finally made a little bit of clothes shopping inevitable. Not that that’s a bad thing, except for the pocketbook. I tried to get stuff that barely fit, for two reasons.

First, it’s pretty good motivation to slip on a pair of pants that could hardly button just a short while ago, but that now are loose. It’s helped me to see that change with the clothes I had when I started this journey, and I’m hoping for similar self-feedback this time around.

Secondly, the aforementioned pocketbook. I’d like to get some use out of these clothes, and a poor college kid like me can’t (or at least shouldn’t) hit Casual Male once a month.

I’m also trying to figure out what to do with half of a closet of stuff I’ve undergrown (I oughta trademark that, a la Pat Riley). I’ll probably send most of it to Goodwill, but there are a few items that are very nice and still quite wearable. E-Bay, for that, I suppose.
