Eating like a skinny person
Every once in a while, I kinda toss the points out of the window, and, instead, eat like I’d think a skinny person would. That means, if I go out to a restaurant, I get a meal, and possibly a side salad. No appetizers, no dessert, because most skinny people I know don’t indulge in such things on a regular basis. I don’t pass on the hamburger, or the small steak, but I do pass on the double anything, or the Ol’ 96er…
Afterwards, I do my point calculations, and typically, I do pretty well. When I don’t, those are where I use my weekly extra points. It’s just kind of my little take on the Weight Watchers ideal .

Busy day…
…today, but I did want to thank everyone who checked out yesterday’s post . The blog saw some good traffic from that post.
And, I also wanted to post this…;)

Can I get that without…
…butter and sour cream? Thanks so much.
More and more, restaurants are posting their nutritional information on their websites. Such as here and here . And, servers seem much more willing to make substitutions and omissions without rolling their eyes so hard you can hear them click against the skull.
I’d like to think that this is because more and more people are choosing more healthy options when they go out. And, I’m sure that’s true to a large degree. But, I also have to believe that this new attitude is motivated, as least in part, by fear of legislation like this (s2bs Sooner’s note: I’m linking this article to provide an example of the legislation I’m talking about. I’m not agreeing or disagreeing with anything the author says).
And, I’m torn on whether that kind of legislation is a good idea. I’m very worried that laws like that might take us down a slippery slope that would slide into a) a person’s right to do what they want with their own bodies and b) a business’ right to provide them with the materials to do what they chose to their own bodies.
On the other hand, I’m also a big believer in informed consent when it comes to personal choice. If someone starts smoking now, they pretty well know the effects, or should. Someone who started in the 1950’s however, dealt with this:
Right now, I wish there were ways to know what I’m putting into my body when I go to a restaurant, much like smokers 40-50 years ago really didn’t know what was going in their bodies. I’m pretty well past the embarrassment of pulling out my iPhone with this app on it, or simply asking for nutritional information at the restaurant. But, I also know that a lot of people aren’t that comfortable, and having that info available without asking might be helpful.
Hopefully, restaurants will get to that point without being forced into it by the government. But, if laws that carry a heavy burden are placed on restaurants, they might only have themselves to blame. OSHA came about because many companies simply refused to provide safe working environments. Chains, at any rate, already either have the information, or can get it . I’d think there would be a way to get some really positive PR for a restaurant chain that did this voluntarily.
I’m interested in blowback on, all posts, really, but particularly this one.
